About Tarpon Springs Rotary Club

A Short History

The Tarpon Springs Rotary Club developed from activities that began in January 1927 when a service club representative came to Tarpon to discuss the possibility of forming a club with the local civic leaders. The representative explained that it was no longer required that a city must have a population of 5000 to qualify. A telegram was then sent to Chicago petitioning for a club which resulted in Alfred Marshall of the Clearwater Rotary Club to investigate and then give his approval.

With this, the following people were signed as Charter Members: O.F. Baynard, D.P. Boyer, M.E. Denny, George M. Emmanuel, J.N. Farmer, Hugh Ford, Arthur Givson, J.H. Hennig, B.G. Scribner, James F. Sikes, Elias Smitzes, Ben Strozier, Abe L. Tarapani, John R. West, Jr., J.M. Young, T.D. Hughes, G.A. Louden, Archie McCallister, J.C. McCrocklin, J. Edgar Phillips, Rev. L.J Richards and Fred K. Sage.

Our Club Today

The Tarpon Springs Rotary Club is a larger club with an average of about 80 members. Each year we work together to help enrich our community through annual fundraising events such as our Sprint Triathlon, Pancake Supper and Wine Tasting & Silent Auction. With these and other fundraising events, we help support our local Schools, Boy and Girl Scouts, Little League, Boys and Girls Club as well as provide scholarships through our Doorways program and much more.

We recognize Rotary’s ideal of Service Above Self, and we work toward applying it in our personal, business and community life. Our club meets every Thursday at 12:15 for camaraderie and to plan and implement projects which add to the vitality and improvement of our community. Visiting Rotarians can find more information on our Club meetings on our Where We Meet page.
